FlowMax™ How it Works

  • FlowMax remains in a closed position until the critical flow rate is reached

  • All flow is directed to the bit

  • Once the critical flow rate is reached, FlowMax opens and diverts a portion of the flow to the annulus

  • The portion of flow (50%/50%, 60%/40%, 70%/30%)  is diverted to the annulus and is adjustable on surface by changing the nozzle sizes

  • The driller will observe a drop in surface pressure as the critical flow rate is reached

  • As the driller brings up the pumps to the final flow rate the surface pressure will increase along the slower trend line (green line)

  • As long as the flow rate is above the critical rate , the FlowMax remains open

  • When the pumps are shut down the FlowMax will shut automatically

  • Well influxes can be circulated out at slow circulating rates with the FlowMax in the closed position
